Chloe Won a Prize

I usually fetch the children from school every afternoon.

One Friday afternoon, I saw them both walking towards me. Carl was carrying two bags. Chloe had her backpack on, her left hand was holding her poster making project and on her right hand was a big Winnie the Pooh storage box. I asked her offhandedly, "Where did you get that? Did you buy that with your lunch money?"

She was smiling and she raised her poster and simply said, "First place!"

Pride and shame. What a mixture of emotions. Pride for my daughter for winning a prize and shame for almost getting angry with her thinking that she bought something instead of food. I called my husband immediately and told him the good news and my little blunder. We had a few giggles over that.

Then we told everybody else at home.

Chloe was awarded first place in a poster making project of their grade 5 class on Nutrition Week. She received a Winnie the Pooh storage box for it.

Papa and Chloe creating a Masterpiece

More beautiful than the work of art on paper are the images captured here;
Both artists engrossed with brush strokes and colors and the masterpiece they create.
Time suspended, memory preserved, father and daughter, it is genetic.
A work of art indeed.

Carl's Left Hand

Big fish: "Please to eat you."
Small fish: "Don't you mean, meet?"

Carl is left handed. He loves to draw little figures all over his notebooks. There are dragons breathing fire, soldiers with guns, knights with knives and swords, Indians and cowboys, ants fighting, with some of their battles depicting victory and loss. It's like telling a story through his miniature drawings. Makes me wonder if he listens to his teachers.

Here are some drawings I found at the back of his grade 4 notebooks. He was 9 years old then.

"Hold still, so I can hit you!" Frog: "I'm not hungry

Maybe Carl wouldn't appreciate seeing these drawings here right now. But ten years from now, he would see this and remember his old hobby.

Wouldn't you want to see your first drawings again, if given the chance?

Chloe's Right Hand

I first noticed Chloe's love for art when she was 8 years old.

Although she started drawing things like flowers, animals, trees and persons during the early years, we didn't gave much attention to it. But when she turned 8, we found her notebook full of beautiful drawings.

By age 9, we sent her for summer art class and she really loved their sessions. Here are samples of her works.
